BMW 2 “In Memory of Charlie Daniel

Our BMW 2 was purchased on the 31st January 2023 as a second hand motorcycle with 36,608 miles recorded, by funding received from The West of England Steam Engine Society (WESES)

WESES have been immensely supportive of the Cornwall Blood Bike charity since August 2016 where still in the early days of fundraising events we were invited to set up a charity stand at the three day event based at the Stithians Showground.

CBB have been incredibly lucky over the years to have been the WESES Chairman’s chosen charity on three occasions.

In 2022 as the show and the world started to recover and get back to the “new norm” from the Covid-19 pandemic we were once again the society’s chosen charity and their committee asked “could they buy us a bike?”

BMW 2 was purchased and we asked the committee if they would like to name the bike which will proudly bear the WESES logo.

A dedication was made for a very special man and the bike was named “In Memory of Charlie Daniel”

Charlie was the West of England Steam Engine Societies former president who sadly passed away after a short illness on the 21st August 2022 (the very last day of the 2022 show that we were a chosen charity)

Charlie was possibly one of the most experienced, knowledgeable and professional steam preservationists not only in Cornwall but nationwide.

He had a passion for the Cornish Mining and steam engine heritage, attending steam rallies up and down the Country and encouraging the next generations to get involved.

Our BMW 2 made its very first appearance at Trevithick Day Camborne 25th April 2023 which was extremely fitting; Charlie and his brother Robin had been loyal supporters of Trevithick Day since its beginnings over 40 years ago bringing along their engines to the event.

It was very moving that the Trevithick committee had made “Charlie Place” with a wonderful banner paying tribute to Charlie and still keeping his space at this wonderful day commemorating this iconic British inventor.

In February 2025 BMW 2 had 65,100 miles on the clock.

BMW 2  has been serving the people of Cornwall, where we hold dear and continue to be very proud of our captivating history and heritage of our wonderful coastline being rich in mining heritage, and you will get to see this bike out and about at steam rallies and events throughout the year and of course be in attendance at the yearly WESES three day event held in August.
