When the charity was formed back in 2011 as Cornwall Freewheelers, the Duchy’s Volunteer Blood Bike service was born.
We were given a great deal of support, help and guidance from our fellow blood bike colleagues Freewheelers EVS The Blood Bike charity covering Bristol, Bath, Taunton, West Wiltshire and Somerset.
As part of that help from Freewheelers EVS as a very established charity was the opportunity to purchase their second hand BMW 1200 RTP’s from their then fleet manager Pete Michael.
BMW 2 was purchased in the spring of 2018 with a start mileage of 63,326 miles and to date (Nov 2020) has now 100,480 miles on the clock
It has now completed just over 37, 154 operational miles with us here at CBB and been based all over our County completing many operational taskings as well as a proud attendance at fundraising events across the County.
The volunteers of Freewheelers EVS often get an opportunity to see “their” bikes in action when an RV point is arranged between both our blood bike groups for couriering time critical blood samples for specialist testing at Bristol or bringing frozen breast milk into the County for the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trusts Neonatal Unit
Without the support and the wonderful opportunities from Freewheelers EVS we would not have been able to provide the level of dedicated service that we have done to the people of Cornwall.
We have never forgotten our roots, and the enormous help that we were given and Freewheelers EVS remain very special friends of all the volunteers at Cornwall Blood Bikes.
