Back in June of 2017 CBB were fortunate enough to be nominated in The Masonic Charitable Foundation Awards, which were created by The United Grand Lodge of England to celebrate 300 years of Freemasonry.
To mark 300 years, 300 charities were chosen to receive a share of £3 million across the UK.
Our charity was one of six to be nominated by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cornwall with local people voting to decide their level of award ranging from £4,000 to £25,000
They were part of 178,801 people who voted across England and Wales. The people of Cornwall truly got behind us and supported us in promoting the vote.
On the 5th September 2017 it was announced by The Masonic Charitable Foundation Awards that the Cornwall Blood Bikes charity had been awarded the highest grant of £25,000.
Cornwall Blood Bikes received the highest out of a £58,000 pot of cash for Cornwall, with iSight Cornwall receiving £15,000, Bosom Buddies UK £4,000, Penhaligon’s Friends £4,000, Young People Cornwall £4,000 and Ellie’s Haven Cornwall, £6,000.
The official cheque presentation took place at Truro Cathedral on Saturday 30th September by the Provincial Grand Master Mr. Stephen Pearn from The Provincial Grand Lodge of Cornwall.
“Speaking at the official presentation on Saturday, Provincial Grand Master Mr Pearn, said he was delighted for the Blood Bikers team: “The donation will literally save lives and it’s great to advertise what the charity does. Cornwall’s Masonic Benevolent Fund has been supporting so many communities across Cornwall for many years. It’s a great organisation that is fun to be a part of as well as helping others. Our members come from all walks of life.”.
With this money for the first time in the charities history we were able to purchase our very first brand new BMW 1200 RT(p) and two nearly brand new bikes.
On Friday 6thApril 2018 Cornwall Blood Bikes played host to a spectacular fundraising gala evening at The Alverton Hotel, Truro. That Friday evening was a true celebration of working relationships, and also for two completely separate but very unique organisations that have come together to unite as one and achieved the perfect result.
This was all a very long way away from the charities humble beginnings that CBB chairman James Forder, and vice chairman Stephan Mellows along with our stalwart founder volunteers were a part of.
The charities brand new bike was unveiled and named by The Provincial Grand Master for The Province of Cornwall, Mr Stephen Pearn and the keys handed over to CBB Chairman James Forder in spectacular style under a cloud of exploding balloons, with both representatives from CBB and The Province of Cornwall.
“Spirit of Cornwall” was welcomed into our fleet and went operational the very next day to serve the people and communities of Cornwall.
Without the help from The Province of Cornwall none of this would have been possible.
The biggest heartfelt thank you to The Province, and the public of Cornwall for being beside us for every mile of our journey.
