When the charity was formed back in 2011 as Cornwall Freewheelers, the Duchy’s Volunteer Blood Bike service was born and over the years the charity has taken baby steps to quietly and conscientiously provide a professional service.
In 2015 a rebrand was needed and the new era of Cornwall Blood Bikes beckoned.
In that time we have always had wonderful support from greater established Blood Bike charities across the Country and the opportunities to purchase excellent condition second-hand BMW 1200 RTP bikes.
BMW 12 Our BMW 7 was purchased around the September 2019 as an excellent second-hand bike with 78,617 miles on the clock from our colleagues at Severn Freewheelers EVS; the regional Blood Bike group covering Gloucestershire, Hereford & Worcester & North Wilts.
Once again our Fleet Manager John headed over the Tamar and this time with our volunteer advanced rider & Charity Trustee Paul Thomas.
It is always a pleasure to meet up with other blood bike groups, and there is always a good chat between the fleet managers and catch up when collecting bikes.
BMW 12 has now 102,695 miles on the clock which has covered 24,000 operational miles with us here at CBB serving the Counties hospitals and hospices.
In 2019 we covered just over 100,000 miles and this fleet bike helped us to achieve that as a team.
